Welcome to our third newsletter. There have been a number of new and interesting developments with Sustainable Wellington Net, but before we detail those we would like some feedback from people about e-mails which we send out in addition to this newsletter, in particular Action Alerts. ACTION ALERTS We sent out one Action alert about the Long Gully native forest area (thanks to all those who attended the meeting). There was a second one which we were going to send out but decided against doing so: Firstly because it was very short notice (it was about attending a WCC meeting that was just 2 days away); secondly it was just a few days after the first Alert and we felt we'd be abusing the network by sending out too many Alerts. We would like to know what people think about: * How many Action Alerts are too many? * Would you like the Action Alert mailouts separated from the Newsletters? - So you can subscribe to either or both Reply to this address and we'll collate the results SPEAKERS AVAILABLE We were going to give a presentation at a seminar on Sustainability on the 26th of June organised by the WEA & Action for Environment. The speech was to be on "Internet and NGOs". Unfortunately the seminar was postponed but our Calendar page will carry a notice when the new date is confirmed. As part of our efforts to publicise and increase awareness of Sustainable Wellington Net we are keen to talk to groups about the site and to get feedback on ways to develop it. So if any one would like a speaker for a meeting of their group, please let us know. As a final note on the theme of presentations, Sustainable Wellington has been asked to present a paper at a conference on community networking at Ballarat University in September. SITE NEWS * Information on the Chaffer's Park campaign is finally online. We've had trouble getting the information updated and have decided to publish it "as is" * We're developing a page on "green" restaurants but only have 1 listing! Do you know of any local restaurants which offer organic or GE-free food? * We're now part of a Web Ring on Sustainability. It's an easy way to find sites on this topic (and for people to find us). See the bottom of our Home Page for more information * Want an easy way to search our site, the New Zealand web, or the whole web? You can select any of these at the click of a mouse on our new Search page * Anti-APEC information is a new listing in our Hot Topics, as is a campaign against Telecom charging for Internet calls * On the 9th of June Wammo accepted us into their Mezzanine listing, which "contains over 450 of the top sites in New Zealand and is a great resource for people wanting to surf cool NZ sites". A link to their site and this listing is available on our About Us page YOUR FIRST STOP FOR ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS http://www.sustainable.wellington.net.nz/
