Somalia - Pirates or Environmental Victims? (New 2009-06-18)

I recently came across an article from Al Jazeera which gives an interesting new insight into the rise in piracy off the coast of Somalia.

A key reason for the fishermen turning to piracy is the destruction of their fishing grounds as a result of over-fishing by fleets from developed countries in Europe and Asia and the dumping of toxic wastes off the coast of Somalia.
